Letterland® is a multisensory and explicit phonics-based approach to teaching children to read, write and spell.
The key principle of Letterland® is based on phonic principles, on the sounds that letters make in words, rather than just their alphabet names. For example /h/ (as a soft breath) rather than ‘huh'. In Letterland, Harry Hat Man represents this letter and he helps children remember the /h/ sound by simply starting to say his name.
The Letterland® characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly pictograms and they all live in an imaginary place called Letterland®. Simple stories about the Letterland® characters explain the full range of phonics facts so that children are motivated to listen, to think and to learn. These stories explain letter sounds & shapes, allowing children to progress quickly to word building, reading and writing.
